Riemvasmaak Hot Springs
Kakamas, Northern Cape
A remote destination to bathe in natural hot spring water. In an incredibly interesting environment, surrounded by a desert wilderness. There are a few pools to choose from and very few other tourists to share it with. So a peaceful experience in total. There are some semi precious stone peddlers, who would love sweets and any city treats, as there are no shops around for many a long mile. It is a hot and dry environment, be sure to have sunblock and your camera handy for a very adventurous trip!
Driving the R359 to Reimvasmaak Hot Springs, feels like what one would expect driving over Mars. A vast and desolate desert landscape, with unique views and the road winding over and around red rock hills. This is a 45 km stretch of dirt road, from Kameeldoring campsite, which is where we started from in the morning. Although a long shorter road, it is a slower journey...but very interesting and well worth the trip, if you are driving a suitable vehicle. We passed only one other car, a small car zipping through the landscape as if it were fresh tar, she appeared to be a local on a regular route.
The alternative road, from Kakamas to Riemvasmaak Hot Springs, is the N14. It may be quicker but it is long and boring, this was the road we took when departing, heading towards Namaqua National Park.
