Rooihoek Campsite, Baviaanskloof
Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve, Eastern Cape
Wild camping but reservation is essential, as you will need a code to enter the gate.
It's a large campsite, and you can choose your plot when booking. You may find you are the only people there.
There are no ablutions (except for a long drop loo), and you will need to take your own drinking water!
There is a big river about 50 meters away which sports a little beach, and a big water for swimming or floating. And you may be visited by buck which come to drink. The views are outstanding and it's so peaceful and quiet...just a African Fish Eagle flying above with its typical African song.
Be aware of baboons! Keeping all food and items in a closed car. Rubbish needs to be kept out of reach too. A trooped popped in for a vist while we were swimming and had a little party on the car roof, luckily everything was closed away, so they did not stay long.
You will need a high clearance vehicle to visit the reserve. The rivers get full in rainy season and the roads uphill are "paved" but extremely bumpy.
We drove via Go Baviaans to do the Cedar Falls Hike.
